5 Tips To Stay Productive When Working From Home

mischa blog; 5 tips to stay productive when working from home

Do you work from home and find it hard to focus? Do you find yourself sitting on the couch binging on food and watching Netflix until you've realised hours have passed?

Procrastination is one of the main struggles of working from home. Here are some tips on how to make working from home more productive.

1. Have a routine

With an office job, there's always a routine involved. Wake up, eat breakfast, get dressed and commute to the office (not necessarily in that order but you get the gist). Even if it was the worst part of your morning, being somewhere on time every day forced you to have a routine.

Start your day at the same time every day in order to keep that work mindset. Having elements of a work routine will help keep you focused.

2. Have a dedicated workspace

A classic work-from-home advice but for good reason. Setting up a dedicated workspace to switch your mind to work mode is very helpful. If you don't have a spare room, you can easily transform a corner of your bedroom or living room into your 'office' with a desk and chair or...work where you are most productive, whether it be the kitchen table or a cafe. Do what works best for you.

3. Set goals

Set measurable goals each day, whether you're working for a few hours or a full day. The best way to be productive is to have a list of tasks in order of importance. Don't just try and tick off the easiest ones.

4. Take breaks

Just like you would in an office setting, make sure you set time aside for lunch and breaks. Plan breaks throughout the day, whether it be for a coffee/tea, going to the bank or simply stepping away from your 'desk' can make a difference in creating a productive workday.

5. Remove yourself from distractions

It’s easy to get distracted when you're working from home, whether it be from your family, roommates or pets. Let them know your work hours and to limit interruptions. Keeping only work-related things on your desk can be helpful.

Remember, you have the power to design a life that works for you.
