'At Home' Soon Lee x MISCHA Part I
Posted on 13 June 2017
This summer, in collaboration with retailer Soon Lee, we explore the idea of where home is - as a woman, as individuals, in the different roles we take up, and what being at home with yourself means to you. Here we introduce three of the seven inspiring women of Singapore in our collaboration. Follow the #sooonleexmischa conversation on Instagram.
PEGGY CHANG @sixpegs
The striking beauty of Peggy really comes from a quiet resilience and the creative soul that she is. Individual, with a refreshingly firm honesty she displays on social media. Peggy, who's in her thirties endorses values and represents life's varying perspectives in all its shades.
WHAT IS HOME TO YOU?
Home is a place, person or a state of mind that makes me feel protected and at peace.
HOW ARE YOU AT HOME WITH YOURSELF?
There are days when I feel like I'm all over the place. However, it's days like these that make me feel vulnerable and human, and in turn, appreciate people who help pick me up and piece me back together. Home isn't far.
WHAT IS YOUR JOURNEY HOME LIKE?
I am on an adventure with myself right now; a journey of self-discovery will never end, this last year has been quite a roller-coaster ride. I hope ultimately, I will become my own home.
TJIN LEE @tjinlee
Tjin has got to be the original new-generation girl boss. Her exciting, high profile business journey she embarked on back in 2002 has today taken on an inspiring life/role of its own. One that encourages fellow female entrepreneurs that 'it's possible'. And through it all, the mother of two does it with great cheer, steadiness and positivity.
WHAT IS HOME TO YOU?
A place of growth and comfort.
HOW ARE YOU AT HOME WITH YOURSELF?
I am intrepid, always an explorer, I love to grow, to discover new things. The quest for home is ongoing. It evolves all the time - to accommodate new friends, partnerships and interests - but that's how it should be. Never static always evolving with you.
WHAT WERE YOUR STRUGGLES? WHAT WAS YOUR JOURNEY HOME LIKE?
Home is a journey for me, not a destination. I make new discoveries with every step of this journey. It is hard to say you have arrived home when the journey is ongoing. I believe it will take me on many more adventure before I find my final resting ground.
ANY WORDS TO LIVE BY, INSPIRE SOMEONE TO ARRIVE HOME WITH THEMSELVES?
You can grow where you are planted. Home is wherever you are, it grows with you, changes with you. The grass will always be greener on the other side, make your own fields bloom with tender self-love and care.
AMBER YONG @emberyong
There is such a glow to Amber in person. Calm, cheerful, up for fun and juggling three full-time gigs in one go: from her corporate day job, running the Leia + Lauren account and apparel label, to being mum to her adorable twins. The consolation, it's no magic. There are struggles, difficulties and constant adjustments to make.
WHAT IS HOME TO YOU?
To me, home is a feeling that is more than a physical place. It is being surrounded by family who makes me feel safe, loved and complete.
WHAT WERE YOUR STRUGGLES?
For the first few months into motherhood, I naturally expected myself to devote all of my available time to be the 'perfect mom'. My self-fulfillment and interests took a backseat and I stopped taking care of myself. I was constantly frustrated and overwhelmed with guilt if I had to work late. My confidence took a dip and I didn't feel good about myself anymore.
I am blessed to have an extremely loving and supportive husband who took notice and helped me turn my world around. He would volunterr to help with the kids and encourage me to take time to pursue my interests. There was no judgement, he makes me feel right to grant myself some 'me time'. It helped me find myself and I'm so happy being me now.
ANY WORDS TO LIVE BY?
To moms out there, making a little time for yourself is nothing selfish. If it makes you a more balanced person emotionally and physically, you will be in a state of better well-bring to care for your children, and most importnatly, enjoy the journey of motherhood!
