Posted on 17 September 2014

Following the #lipstickjungle conversation, we introduce three of the seven inspiring women of Singapore in our collaboration with Soon Lee to explore the topic of femininity and women-centric issues. Find out what motivates them #roundtableofpowerfulgirls

JAIME LEE - Founder of The Paper Bunny

How do you juggle your career, family and social life?

It's important to be clear what your priorities are in life - once you know and determine what's important to you, juggling gets easier because you naturally prioritise the things that are important to you. My main indulgences are spending time with my friends and family because quality time with important people in my life energizes me, so I try hard not to compromise on that and fit in work and meetings around those - though it does sometimes mean that I sleep less from time to time and have less personal time alone. I don't get it right all the time, but hopefully I will get better at juggling and managing my 24 hours in a day as we hustle along.

When things get tough, how do you keep yourself going?

When things get tough, I run to those closest to me and keep working on making things better in the meantime. My husband is a great support and he always reminds me of my strong points and lifts my spirit when I am down - we always need our cheerleaders because things definitely do get tough sometimes! I really just keep going on, and work hard and hope things get better. Take a better photo, design a better piece, be a better friend, pray a little more and definitely sleep on it (because it always gets better with more sleep).

How do you keep yourself looking and feeling good?

I don't have a lot of time to exercise much, so I love making better food choices and eating clean. I have oatmeal and fresh fruit for breakfast almost everyday, and eat salads, soups or sushi for lunch where possible. It makes me feel so much better and less tired too! I also have a huge weakness for new apparel and makeup which always instantly makes me feel more confident and ready to face the world.

JAMIE YEO - TV Host, Actress, Radio DJ, Mother & Model

How do you juggle your career, family and social life?

Sometimes I really don't know how I do it honestly. I guess having a great helper whom I can trust counts for a lot. And also I can get by on not a lot of sleep during the week. Going to the gym and catching catnaps also help to revitalise me during a crazy week.

What in your life has brought or given you the greatest satisfaction or fulfillment?

Definitely having a child. She is the best thing I've ever done and will be the best thing I will ever do. I don't think I would've done anything differently like have kids earlier, because she is the product of the right time and place.

When things get tough, how do you keep yourself going?

I pray, make sure I eat, exercise and sleep. Most importantly I make sure I have a network of loved ones to confide in.

LEANA DORAY - Author & Founder of The Wedding Scoop

How do you juggle your career, family and social life?

This is something I am still learning how to manage as work can sometimes be overwhelming and takes over everything else. I don't even have children yet so I am in absolute awe of mums who manage work, raise children, maintain their own interests and spend time with their partners. What heroes!

When things get touch, how do you keep yourself going?

There are definitely days when I feel low and I usually try to speak with my husband about it. He is my pillar of strength and helps to remind me about our little successes and achievements and to celebrate those as I tend to get very bogged down with the things which have yet to be done.

Just the other day I saw a beautiful print which said, "Be gentle with yourself, you're doing the best you can" which I think more of us need to remember as we are sometimes hardest on ourselves.
