Dinner with Net-a-Porter & The Business of Fashion

Posted on 23 May 2013

Amidst this week's frenzied fashion events and Art Basel opening; Net-a-Porter has arrived in Hong Kong and China and I got to meet President, Alison Loehnis at her welcome dinner!  Hosted by darling friend and fashionista Tina Leung, the intimate dinner was lovely as we got to talk shop and the fascinating business of fashion.

Smaller online retailers are going to be given a run for their money as the team are here to launch their Chinese-language site and a 12,000 square-metre distribution hub in Hong Kong, their third after New York and London. A recent Jing Daily reportdescribes this as their biggest move since acquiring Shouke.com and launching the Chinese version of Outnet earlier last year.

The Beginning of a busy week
Alison was really sweet and I was a bit taken aback when I was introduced to her. Her first words were, "Oh, I love your bag!" Maybe seeing MISCHA on Net-a-porter may not be such a far off dream after all...

The New York Times says:
“The primary reason for choosing to open a distribution center in Hong Kong is because it’s a free port with strong courier networks, which will allow us to improve on our existing shipping service time period by around one day,” said Adrienne Ma, a senior vice president of Net-a-Porter Asia Pacific Group. “We plan to offer a same-day delivery service in Hong Kong and next-day shipping service to major cities in Australia soon.”
